Roy Rogers
Roy Rogers born in 1911 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
His birth name was Leonard Franklin Slye.
When he was young, he and his family, like so many others, moved to California where his
sister resided, to find good work.
After he finished school, he and his cousin, Stanley Slye, went to Los Angeles and sang and
played music together as The Slye Brothers.
He legally changed his name to Roy Rogers after forming the singing group The Sons of the
Pioneers.
His first film as Roy Rogers was Under Western Stars.
Co-starring in a lot of his films were: Pat Brady; The Sons of the Pioneers; Dale Evans, his
wife; and his golden palimino, Trigger.
Their theme song was Happy Trails, a song Dale Evans wrote.
Later on Roy had his own show, The Roy Rogers Show, with Dale Evans, Pat Brady (his
sidekick) and the Jeep, Nellybelle.
Roy and Dale adopted many children and were both Christians.
Dale Evans died February 7, 2001, two and a half years after the death of Roy. Roy Rogers
died of heart failure on July 8, 1998, in Apple Valley, California. He was buried at Sunset Hills
cemetery in Apple Valley.
